⏱️ Deposit limits, breaks and self-exclusion in Ontario and Alberta

The tools every licensed casino must give you, how they work, and how to step away from every site at once.

1Set your limits when you sign up

In Ontario, a licensed site must let you set deposit and loss limits as soon as you register, then at any time, over 24 hours, 7 days or one month (AGCO Standard 2.23). If you set two periods, the lower limit applies.

Want to loosen a limit? The change only takes effect after at least 24 hours (AGCO Standard 2.24). Tightening it is not subject to that delay: the pause only protects you from the evening's impulse.

2Take a break without closing your account

Ontario sites must offer breaks of 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 2 months and 3 months, with no bets possible in the meantime (AGCO Standard 2.13).

3Exclude yourself from one site

Each Ontario site also has its own self-exclusion of 6 months, 1 year or 5 years: you are logged out at once, the marketing stops and your unused funds are returned on request (AGCO Standard 2.14).

4Or from every site at once: BetGuard in Ontario

Since May 14, 2026, BetGuard, run by iGaming Ontario, lets anyone 19 or older exclude themselves from all the regulated online gaming sites in Ontario in a few minutes, for 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term.

Your accounts are blocked, new sign-ups are refused and the marketing stops. iGaming Ontario must add you to the registry within an hour (AGCO Standard 2.14.1).

5In Alberta: the AGLC's Self-Exclusion Program

Alberta's licensed sites must give you tools to set money and time limits and must remind you of them (Government of Alberta).

The AGLC's central Self-Exclusion Program lets you exclude yourself from all the registered online gaming sites, from the province's casinos and racing centres, or from both, and every operator must apply it. Self-exclusion line: 1-844-468-8034. For the exact limits of a site, look in its responsible gambling section.
