How to bet on the 2027 Stanley Cup: futures odds explained
What a futures bet is, how to turn odds into a chance, why the margin is so much bigger than on a single game, and why the prices move all season: the Teacher's guide before you bet on the 2027 Cup.
A bet on the whole season
A futures bet is placed now on an outcome decided months later: here, the team that will lift the Stanley Cup in June 2027. Your stake is locked until the end of the playoffs, and the bet is only settled when the Cup is won.
- One bet, one winner among 32 teams, after 84 regular-season games and four playoff rounds.
- The defending champions are the Carolina Hurricanes, who beat the Vegas Golden Knights in six games in June 2026.
- No Canadian team has won the Cup since the Montréal Canadiens in 1993.
💡 A futures bet ties up your money for months. Only bet what you are ready to forget until June.
From odds to chance
Every price hides a chance. In decimal odds, the chance implied by the price is 1 divided by the odds.
| Decimal odds | American odds | Implied chance |
|---|---|---|
| 2.00 | +100 | 50% |
| 5.00 | +400 | 20% |
| 10.00 | +900 | 10% |
| 21.00 | +2000 | 4.8% |
| 51.00 | +5000 | 2% |
A team at 10.00 is a bet that wins once in ten for the sportsbook's price, before its margin is taken into account.
The margin: much bigger than on a single game
On one game, the chances implied by a sportsbook's two prices add up to a little over 100%: the extra is its margin. With 32 teams in a single market, the margin grows much larger.
On October 30, 2026, even taking the best price available for each team across the sportsbooks licensed in Ontario and Alberta, the implied chances of the Stanley Cup market added up to 120.9%.
That is why OufBet shows, next to each price, a chance without the margin: each sportsbook's prices are brought back to 100%, then averaged.
Why the prices move all season
- Results: each win or loss changes a team's path to the playoffs, over a longer 84-game season.
- Injuries, above all to the starting goalie or a top centre.
- Trades: contenders strengthen before the trade deadline.
- The playoff picture: the top three of each division and two wild cards per conference qualify, so a team's division matters.
A favourite at 8.00 in October can be at 4.00 in March, or at 30.00 after a long injury: the price follows what the market believes, game after game.
Early or late?
Betting early gets bigger prices, but with the most uncertainty: a season is long. Betting late, close to the playoffs, gives smaller prices on teams whose chances are clearer. Neither is better in itself: what matters is whether the price is higher than the chance you believe in.
Compare before you bet
On futures, the gap between sportsbooks can be large: the same team can be offered at very different prices. Before you bet, compare the best price for each team and the chance without the margin.
Bet responsibly
Betting is paid entertainment, for adults only (19 and over in Ontario, 18 and over in Alberta), never a way to make money. Set a budget before you start and stick to it, whatever happens.
